Case Study: Social Media
Smashburger - Boise
Smashburger launched its first Idaho restaurant in July 2009 and opened a second location in Spring 2010. The restaurant steadily built a committed following in the Boise area, but opportunity remained at the time Jeannette Duwe of Duwe Public Relations was hired to lead local public relations initiatives in an endeavor to build public awareness and brand acceptance.
In addition to multiple traditional public relations objectives, Duwe Public Relations was tasked with growing Smashburger’s Treasure Valley social media following.
Through relationship building tactics, Twitter-based prize give-aways and social media “new burger release” tasting parties, Duwe Public Relations built up the Twitter following and generated new Facebook fans for the company.
In less than eight months, Duwe nearly doubled the number of Twitter followers for the @SmashburgerID Twitter handle and improved the Klout Score from 12 to 48. At the end of the project, the company’s local twitter handle averaged 110 mentions per month.
